Support, Core, Stretch: One GCSE Physics Booklet for the Whole Class

Every physics teacher knows the problem. Hand out one worksheet and a third of the class is stuck on question 2 while another third has finished and is looking for something to do. Hand out three worksheets and you’ve tripled your photocopying and made it obvious who got the “easy” one.

Our GCSE Physics activity booklets take a different approach: one booklet per topic, with every question labelled Support, Core or Stretch. Everyone has the same booklet. Everyone starts in the same place. Students move up as far as they can.

Every calculation modelled with FIFA

Each calculation type starts with a worked example using FIFA: Formula, Insert, Fine tune, Answer. Straight after it is a scaffolded “Your turn” question, so students copy the method once before trying it alone.

A 0.50 kg ball moves at 4.0 m/s. Calculate its kinetic energy.

  • Formula: Ek = ½ m v²
  • Insert: Ek = ½ × 0.50 × 4.0²
  • Fine tune: square the speed first: 4.0² = 16
  • Answer: Ek = 0.5 × 0.50 × 16 = 4.0 J

The same four steps work for every equation on the sheet. If you haven’t come across FIFA before, here’s the full explanation.

What’s in each booklet

  • A retrieval starter: five closed-book questions from earlier topics
  • A one-page knowledge organiser with an equation bank and units
  • FIFA worked examples with “Your turn” questions
  • Graded questions with bordered working boxes for calculations
  • The required practicals written out in full, with questions on method, errors and improvements
  • Varied activities: match up, fill the gaps, true or false, spot the mistake, graph plotting and quick-check multiple choice
  • An exam-style question with a score box, plus a challenge task that goes beyond GCSE
  • A progress tracker with three confidence boxes per statement

One set for Physics and Combined Science

The booklets cover the whole AQA GCSE Physics (8463) specification, which includes all the physics in Combined Science: Trilogy (8464). Higher Tier only and Separate Physics only content is tagged throughout, so Foundation and Combined students know exactly what to skip. The only booklet Combined Science classes won’t need is 4.8 Space physics.

They’re designed to read clearly on screen and still work when photocopied in black and white.

Try the Energy booklet free

The complete 4.1 Energy booklet is free, with its answer booklet: 24 pages of activities, 42 questions and required practicals 1 and 2. No sign-up, no email. Use it with a class and see how it goes.

If it suits you, the full set of all eight topics, each with its own answer booklet, is £15, and one purchase covers unlimited printing for your own classes.
