Free quiz-show games in PowerPoint for AQA GCSE Physics, for whole-class revision. There are four topics, each with two games: Blockbusters and Pointless. They suit Separate Physics (8463) and Combined Science: Trilogy (8464).
Energy resources · Working scientifically · Conduction, convection and radiation · The electromagnetic spectrum
How the games work
- Blockbusters: two teams race across a board of 20 lettered hexagons. Click a letter for its question. Every answer starts with that letter. Click Show answer, then Orange wins or Blue wins to colour the hexagon.
- Pointless: six rounds where the lowest score wins. Click the numbered tile for the answer a team gives to reveal its score. The scores are our estimates for a typical GCSE class, not real survey results.
✏️ Before the lesson: open the file in PowerPoint on a computer and start the slide show (Slide Show, then From Beginning). The clickable parts only work in Slide Show, and won’t work in Google Slides or Keynote. Each game has a teacher answer slide at the end, and the answers are also in the speaker notes. Stay on the game slide while playing: pressing space or the arrow keys moves on.
Energy resources
Fossil fuels, nuclear fuel, every renewable resource, reliability, environmental impacts and the three main uses of energy.
Working scientifically
Variables, accurate and precise, resolution, uncertainty, random and systematic errors, graphs, SI units and prefixes, using AQA’s definitions.
Conduction, convection and radiation
Particle explanations, convection currents, infrared and surfaces, thermal conductivity, insulating a home and how a vacuum flask works.
The electromagnetic spectrum
The order of the spectrum, properties of electromagnetic waves, how they are emitted and absorbed, their uses and their hazards.
