The Physics Question Bank

Compass Directions

โœ๏ธ Paper first! Work out every question on paper before you open the answer. Write down every step โ€“ the equation, the numbers with units, the rearranging and the answer with its unit. In the exam, if your final answer is wrong you can still get marks for correct working, but only if the examiner can see it.

Practise 8-point compass directions on a new map extract every time. Tap a compass point to answer, and the worked solution draws the arrow for you.

Worked solution

Use the 8-point compass: N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW. North is at the top of the map. “What direction is A from B?” means stand at B and look towards A. Never Eat Shredded Wheat runs clockwise from the top.

Directions between features are marked against the nearest compass point. Bearings are not needed here. This map is a simple practice extract with made-up symbols, not a real map.
