Osmosis Practical Graphs

โœ๏ธ Paper first! Work out every question on paper before you open the answer. Write down every step โ€“ the equation, the numbers with units, the rearranging and the answer with its unit. In the exam, if your final answer is wrong you can still get marks for correct working, but only if the examiner can see it.

Practise the potato osmosis required practical: percentage change in mass, reading the graph, and finding the concentration of the potato cells. New results every time, with the reading drawn on in the worked solution.

Worked solution

Percentage change in mass = (final mass โˆ’ initial mass) รท initial mass ร— 100. A loss in mass is negative. Where the line of best fit crosses 0 % there is no net movement of water, so the sucrose solution has the same concentration as the potato cells.

Answers within 2% are marked correct.
