Quick guide: plain English, key facts and method
In plain English: A conclusion says what the results show and explains why. An evaluation says how good the evidence is and how it could be improved.
Key facts
- Describe the pattern first, then quote data from the results.
- Explain the pattern using scientific ideas.
- A correlation shows two things change together. It does not prove that one causes the other.
- Valid: the investigation answers the question it set out to answer, as a fair test.
- Higher: predictions outside the range of the data (extrapolation) are uncertain.
- Improve an investigation by taking more readings, over a wider range, with repeats.
How to do it
- Say what happens to the dependent variable as the independent variable increases.
- Quote two pieces of data.
- Explain it with science.
- Say how certain you are, and how the method could be improved.
