Quick guide: plain English, key facts and method
In plain English: Most calculations in science use an equation. Write it, put the numbers in, and give the answer with a unit.
Key facts
- Wave speed = frequency × wavelength.
- Potential difference = current × resistance.
- Density = mass ÷ volume.
- Magnification = image size ÷ real size.
- Rf = distance moved by substance ÷ distance moved by solvent.
- Higher: to rearrange A = B × C, B = A ÷ C. To rearrange A = B ÷ C, B = A × C and C = B ÷ A.
How to do it
- Write down the equation.
- Convert any values into the units the equation needs.
- Substitute the numbers (or rearrange first).
- Calculate and give the answer with its unit.
